Dr. Matt Hilgefort, of the Winchester-Hilgefort
Spine and Joint Center in Moscow Mills, has worked this
past year with athletes at Troy Buchanan High School.
He began with the football team last fall
including a clinic prior to the beginning of two-a-day workouts.
His programs include a speed development program and this
winter, with the boys and girls' basketball teams with a
knee injury prevention effort. This spring, has been seen
each Thursday working with the track athletes at the track
as well with some tennis, soccer and a pitching clinic for
baseball players.
"I want to observe potential problems
and prevent injuries," he said.
The sessions include stretching exercises
to lessen the risk of hamstring injuries, especially with
track athletes such as hurdlers. If a more serious problem
is detected, the athletes are welcomed to go to the clinic
for more comprehensive care at a cost far less than the
normal office visit.
