Troy- Troy Rotary Club has launched a
new initiative to raise much-needed funding for Powell Library.
Called “Passion for Powell,” the campaign will
equip the local library with the resources and technology
it needs to serve the growing community.
“Every year Rotary undertakes community
service projects to improve the quality of life for the
communities it serves,” said Rotary president Dr.
Brett Winchester.
“Powell Library provides us with
an outlet to serve every member of the community now and
for generations to come.”
Supported by private donations and special
fundraising events. Troy Rotary Club will work with Sharon
Hasekamp, Powell librarian, to improve the library’s
computer technology, update its reading selections, and
enhance its research offerings.
Rotary members and Hasekamp also hope
“Passion for Powell” will spark an increase
in local library visitation, supporting literacy and lifelong
learning in the community.
“It is so exciting that the Rotary
Club has taken the initiative to support the community with
the services of the library,” said Hasekamp.
“The library does not receive any
government funding. The only funding is all through the
school district.
“We think this is a great effort,”
said Winchester, “because everybody in the community
can use the library equally. Everybody can benefit from
the library and that is why this is so good.”
“Passion for Powell’s”
first fundraiser will take place Saturday , Oct. 14. Dubbed
“Wine Trip 2006,” Rotary will invite the community
on a winery tour of Augusta, Mo. Costs are per person and
will cover transportation while also raising money for Powell.
