Drs. Brett Winchester and Matt Hilgefort
of Winchester-Hilgefort Spine & Joint Center located in
Moscow Mills recently traveled to Vancouver, B.C., to study
the latest research in soft tissue treatments.
Patented as Active Release Technique (ART),
the doctors spent four days with leaders of the manual care
field honing their skills with this particular treatment protocol.
Designed to remedy conditions associated
with muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves, ART has been
proven as one of the most effective techniques in treating
conditions ranging from headaches, back and joint pain to
carpal tunnel, sciatica and plantar fasciitis. To employ ART,
credentialed practitioners such as Winchester and Hilgefort
use their hands to explore muscles for "adhesions,"
places where acute injuries, repetitive motion and inflammation
leave scar tissue. Without proper treatment via soft tissue
techniques such as ART, this scar tissue can accumulate and
lead to reduced range of motion, loss of strength and sharp
pain.
"For patients to effectively recover
from conditions ranging from headaches to plantar fasciitis,
the body's soft tissues must be addressed," said Dr.
Winchester. "We have made ART a cornerstone of our practice
and attribute much of our clinical and patient success to
providing a comprehensive approach to health care."
ART consists of more than 500 specific clinical applications
for the efficient treatment of unique soft tissue conditions.
"We believe in ART because we see it
work in our practice daily," added Dr. Hilgefort. "We
also use ART because we don't believe in a cookie-cutter approach
to manual health care. Every patient we treat has distinct
needs and by combining ART with joint manipulation, rehabilitation
and therapeutic exercises, as needed, the results are phenomenal-
especially with athletes who are often recovering from acute
injuries."
